Dear Friends of Nova Scotia,

As you certainly know, the Pollet's Cove property is a Nova Scotia treasure and a symbol of the best this province can offer future generations. I urge the government to take a stand for posterrity and the environment by exploring all avenues for saving this magnificent jewel.

This property must not fall into private hands. To foreclose the possibility of visits by our children is the worst possible outcome and speaks poorly of our stewardship. Please take the necessary steps to ensure the preservation of Pollet's Cove.

Yours most sincerely,

I've visited many parts of this country and Pollett's Cove is amongst the most beautiful. Vancouver Island has the West Coast Trail...what would we have without the hike from Pleasant Bay to Pollett's Cove to Meat Cove - nothing even comparable. Save it now before its too late and I have to tell my kids how nice it "used" to be.

I think that an important point needs to be made that there is a greater provincial interest in this land with which to measure the value of the land beyond "a conventional market value appraisal based on road access". These include completion of the Polletts Cove Aspey Fault Wilderness Protection Area, protection of unique landscapes, protection against adverse affect on investment already made in the protected area, preservation of scenic tourist and recreation sites and finally public as opposed to potential foreign ownership of one of the most beautiful places in the province.

There will be a willing buyer out there who has the means and desire to buy this amazing piece of remote wilderness for themselves and helicopter or boat into it. The Province has a policy around purchase of included private properties within public lands and this is probably the #1 most important piece of included lands in the Province. If the province is afraid of setting a precedent for purchase of lands above market value, as was explained by government representatives, once Polletts Cove is privately purchased for over 1.5 million dollars there will be all kinds of opportunity to buy other lands at "market value as the "market value" yard markers for remote wilderness lands will have moved dramatically but sadly the people of Nova Scotia won't have Polletts Cove.

The Province has done the right thing in the past through purchase of Cape Split at 5 million dollars and Micous Island at 700 thousand dollars. We need to get the owners back into fair negotiations with the government before it sells on the open market... or else my children may never be back to Polletts Cove again.

There are many people out there who are willing to assist the governement secure this as public lands and I am one of them.

I will never forget the first time I hiked to Pollet's Cove and had that first view of the cove from way up on the fields with the cows and horses. It was magical..I was dying to see it, had heard a little bit about it but couldn't believe when I saw it for the first time...one of those "better than I imagined" moments..I had just returned from 15 years out west to make my permanent home here in Nova Scotia...what a homecoming...

Pollett's is one of the most unique & isolated places within the Highlands of Cape Breton. It would be a shame to lose access to this wonderful place. On the West Coast of Canada I see many remote places similar to Pollett's Cove being sold privatly. These once remote places are now fishing resorts or relaxation spas to be visited by only the rich and not by the poor hiker. I would not want to see this happen to Pollett's. I dream of the day I can return to Pollett's Cove to show friends and family the true beauty of the Highlands and the richness and diversity of Pollett's Cove that only a handfull of people have experienced.

Help bring Pollet's Cove into public hands so everone can enjoy its beauty.

I consider Pollet's Cove to be the jewel of Nova Scotia. I've lost track of the number of times I've hiked in. I proposed to my wife during sunset on the beach at Pollet's and I've been planning to hike in with my kids as soon as they are old enough to strap on a pack. I hate to think that that day may never come due to the Province not recognizing the importance of this truley unique and wonderful place.

My husband took me into Pollet's Cove just before we got married and I will always remember that trip. Not only was the hike beautiful, if not challenging, but coming over the rise and down into the cove was a beauty like I'd ever seen before. My husband made an annual hike into the cove for years and it is a very special place for him and many of his friends (see Neil's comments). I'd hate to think that people would no longer get the chance to go there and enjoy it's beauty.
